   About Nu-Future

BUY NOW WITH PAYPAL

Mixing soulful vocals, conscious lyrics, uplifting melodies, cool beats & UBPs ('Urban Beat Poetry'), Nu-Future create a sound at the crossroads of Funk, Hip Hop, RnB, Drum n Bass & Soul, paying tribute to the old skool & the nu skool while expressing their own unique individuality within both.

Nu-Future are James Gaynor & Stephe Meloy & feature the voices of Spanish soul singer, Gloria Garcia & Jayli Robinson.

Taking their influences from as diverse a musical journey as Soul, Funk, HipHop, Rock, Dance, Gospel, Folk, Jazz, RnB & Pop, Nu-Future write songs you can sing along with, grooves you can work up a sweat to & lyrics which uplift & inspire. Never failing to live outside of the corporate rule box, the only rules they follow are the ones they usually break. Think Urban with subtle shades of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Electronica in a tin can conceived by Warhol, The Beatles go HipHop, Chic produced by the Neptunes, Earth Wind And Fire seen through the eyes of Phil Spector. Nu-Future defy boundaries & lazy classifications, instead reaching out to a world long since abandoned by Corporate A&R and lazy radio - the magnificent, wonderful, eclectic & magpie world of real Pop.

JAMES PAST & PRESENT
James has been DJing for several years, having worked on London pirate stations Lush FM & Flex FM, & in A&R for London’s influential 679 Records & Warner Brothers/WEA. He is currently resident at The Kingly Club, in London’s Carnaby Street.

STEPHE PAST & PRESENT
Stephe has a long background as a session musician, programmer & producer, working with some of the UK’s top black artists on a wide range of released material. His programming & playing can be heard on the album "The Lick" by British Rap b& Definition Of Sound as well as two singles taken from the same album - "What R U Under" & "Can I Get Over", the former featuring in the Wesley Snipes movie "Sugar Hill". His keyboard & guitar work has graced remixes of artists including Duran Duran ("Love Voodoo") & The Soup Dragons ("Divine Thing"). He played keyboards with singer Nicki French for the UK promotion of her worldwide hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (including two appearances on UK chart show Top of the Pops) & performed in the globally released video promo of the same track. Other acts Stephe has worked with include Jazz/Dance diva Juliet Roberts, British Lovers-Rock singer/songwriter Carroll Thompson, RnB Soul Diva Claudia Patrice (Boompcious/ X Blind Date), Ugandan Gospel vocal group Limit X, British RnB act 4M&u, Street-Soul singer Jane Eugene (X Loose Ends), Freestylers mastermind Aston Harvey, producer/singer J D Braithwaite (X Total Contrast/ Tongue N Cheek), producer John Springate (X Glitter B&/ producer Total Eclipse Of The Heart), producer Phil Edwards (X Paradise/ MD to East 17/ Eternal/ producer to 4M&u), Sony Columbia signing Elaine Vassell (X Free Spirit), upcoming British singer/songwriter Paula Clarke (We Will Rock You/ Lynden David Hall/ X Dave Stewart/ C J Lewis), Maurey Richards (Ray Charles / Starlight Express / X Platters), UK Jazz/Soul songwriter & producer Michael McKenzie & singer/songwriter Elaine Girard. Stephe had a critically well-received single release on the UK Garage underground under his production name 451 with DJ NickleBee (‘InterFunk’ & ‘Vibin'’). 451 tracks have been well received on the Internet, notably achieving over 30,000 downloads/streams on Vitaminic.co.uk as well as number 7 in their most downloaded tracks for ‘InterFunk’. The tracks also reached numbers 7, 8 & 9 in the Peoplesound UK Garage top 20.

NU-FUTURE CHRONOLOGY
Islington 1997 & Stephe meets up with Jayli on a Music Technology project he is running for London’s Islington Council. Shortly after, with James working part-time in North London Record Store, Loppy Lugs, a mutual acquaintance introduces him to Stephe & the Nu-Future seeds are sewn. Spin forward to 2001 & James is now working for WEA Records in London’s fashionable Kings Road. Recently promoted from the Post room to A&R admin assistant, he calls on Stephe to collaborate on a new version of classic 80s dance track, ‘I Can’t Wait’ (originally recorded by Nu Shooz). Going into the studio on Friday morning, they record a fresh, funky Garage version which so impresses A&R man, Steve Allen on Monday morning, that come Monday afternoon they have their first recording contract with Warner Brothers Records. ‘I Can’t Wait’ is released later that year to critical acclaim, gaining much radio play, including support from Kiss FM’s DJ EZ. Unfortunately a rival version of the track is released shortly after, leading to much media confusion as the two versions go head to head with Nu-Future narrowly missing out in the ensuing hype. Leaving Warner Brothers in 2002, James & Stephe decide to set up their own studio where they subsequently retreat to write, experiment & develop their sound. Often working in collaboration with Spanish soul singer, Gloria Garcia, they are able to define their sound away from label interference & the ticking clock of the commercial studio. They have recorded the bulk of what they believe will be their first album when, in 2003, Gloria is forced to take time out due to throat problems. With Gloria out of action, under Doctor's orders to rest her vocal cords for the next 6 months, the boys decide to call in Jayli to cover vocal duties. Going back in the studio, the boys write & record several new tracks which will form the bulk of their debut album, Mantra alongside a h&ful of the tracks from the Gloria sessions. Discovering a deep rooted apathy in the current UK music climate & an unwillingness on the part of the Labels to invest in anything outside of the well beaten track, the boys decide to put their money where their mouth is & in late 2004 they set up their own label, Nuon Records, & decide to release the album themselves.

NEWS
James has a white label release out called "We Can Give It Up", released under his production name, The Specialist featuring, Angel. "We Can Give It Up" is available from specialist record stores around the UK.

Retail outlets include: iTunes, Napster, Tesco's Online, Virgin Online, Woolworths & HMV Online.

In 2003 Stephe released a bootleg version of Janet Jackson’s “Someone 2 Call My Lover” with renowned underground Garage Producer Linx on DJ Lisa Unique’s label Unique Kutz. Summer 2003 saw 451’s track ‘Give U Love' released on an Ayia Napa themed compilation CD by the Daily Star. UK distribution was 750,000 units.
